Gratuitous popup Windows have had their Day
I just wanted to say how redundant the comment's popup window in Movable Type's default templates are.
They look like a carry over from external services for comments like Haloscan and it does not make much sense to have a form in a popup window that is repeated on the archive page of the entry.
So I thought it would be slick to have the comment link on the main page link to an anchor at the comment form on the the archive page of the entry.
Hopefully this will be a more usable and user friendly design change.
In a post popup-apocalypse world that if it is possible to have a design without using popups than that is a step in the right direction.
I have seen this on several weblogs and I just think that is is more logical. User triggered popup windows are still around for TrackBack and large images.
It is just a personal taste that gratuitous popup windows have had their day.

Nice change, although MT pop ups don't bother me to much. Might be nice to have an option that lets people choose, such as the one many people have that let them choose to open a link in a new window or not.

i'd hafta agree re: popup windows (for instance, the "popup" i have for the testimonials is not really a popup, but an information thingy when you hover...if you click the link it will simply reload the page...) and i like this style of commenting better...i was hoping to do something like this w/MT once i have the sonofabitch configured and all that good stuff...in either case, i like it! :)

Much better - it always took an age for the popup to load.
And the background looks a lot better since my last comment about it. :)

I dunno. I understand you want to get rid of the pop-ups, but there is no link back to the original page so the reader can continue reading the zine. That would be the reason I would keep the pop-up.

You see the way it was before the comments popup page was generated on the fly by MT. So the CGI script and the database was called everytime it was clicked on the main page. Now it takes you right to the premade form on the archive and the CGI script only has to hit the database when a new comment is submitted to be published.
So it should be faster.
Yes I am quite pleased with the new background.
