Good Old Dead Animal Leather

hamburgerYesterday after some shopping with Kymberly I spent $110 on a pair of brown Dr. Marten Boots.

After sales tax, leather polish and some soul inserts it kicked the price up to $150. This is hands down the most I have ever paid for footwear. Since they are known for their longevity and comfort I expect to get a decade of use out of these suckers. I use to have a pair of boots that I did not take too good care of the leather and they became a leaky eyesore in their later years. I do feel a bit like Imelda Marcos but Kymberly assures me that men actually spend more per pair of shoes but women tend to buy more pairs.

Sadly the only shoes that we could find that were made in the USA were a pair of $150 Hush Puppies. These Doc Martens are now made in Taiwan and at least I did not support Communist China with my purchase of boots. I have no problem with leather and have yet to see vegan shoes that did not suck. Besides plastics and synthetics are petrochemicals compounds so that is hardly more eco-friendly that good old dead animal leather.

I understand the feeling when you spend a lot of money on some shoes. It first time I spent a bunch of money on very good wingtips, I felt a little naseous.

But in the end, women are right. Grown men should spend good money on their shoes. Men do not buy shoes often and they should spend on quality to ensure they look and feel good a long time.

So when Kymberly someday tells you it's time to spend a few hundred on dress shoes to match a new suit, smile and say "Yes, dear."

I already have a pair of uncomfortable dress shoes for funerals and weddings that I never wear. I don't think I will ever get to be a "Yes, Dear"guy with her. I doubt she would want that.

I'm glad you inserted the soul! Did you feel the earthquake last night? I did!

a 3.2 at 12:19 AM last night. Huh.. No I did not notice it.

I got a l33t pair of hand-me-down Doc Martens from my Dad. They lasted me ages before I had to get them resoled.

New Balances are made in the US

Interesting but they are neo Birkenstock's not actual boots. I have a hard time thinking that rubber or plastic shoes would be any better for the environment than leather. Besides I am not Vegan or vegitarian.

It was a 3.6 quake. It caused my bed to slip off the frame thereby dumping me on the floor. I had just gotten to sleep and then *rumblerumbleboomshakeshakeboom* I was on the floor. It was a good night.

We didn't feel the earthquake, but coming from Southern California 3.6 is nothing. You get very use to 5.0 and above on a weekly basis. Jacob I would always appreciate a "Yes Dear" boy in the bedroom.
