Games to Pre-Order for 2003
There still is a lot of games that I am looking forward to in 2003. Here is a list of what I have or might pre-order for 2003.
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 9/8/2003 Gameboy Advance
P.N.03 9/9/2003 Gamecube
Viewtiful Joe 10/7/03 Gamecube
Star Wars Rogue Squadron III 10/21/03 Gamecube
Super Mario Advance 4 : SMB3 10/21/03 Gameboy Advance
WWE Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain 10/27/03 PS2 Updated
Castlevania: Lament of Innocence 10/28/03 PS2
Tony Hawk's Underground 10/28/03 PS2
Mario Kart: Double Dash!! 11/18/03 Gamecube Updated
Space Channel 5 Parts 1 +2 11/18/03 PS2
King of Fighters 2000 & 2001 11/18/03 PS2
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes 11/18/03 Gamecube
Update : When there are games that do not get wide pressing made like the UK version of Shenmue 2 for Dreamcast or Rez for PS2 then it is good to pre-order because I know that I will get mine. That is true that the games that they make several million copies of like some EA sports games are not going to be in short supply but there are non mainstream games that I don't want to miss. Then there are times that there are free goodies for those who pre-order.
There is no extra costs in pre-ordering and it saves you the worry of having to stand in line camping for a game. I remember trying to get a copy of Zelda 2 and SMB3 when they first came out. It sucked and was damn hard to find one. The system was created in Japan because of the kids who would skip school and camp out in front of the stores so they could get their copy of the new Dragonquest games. There were stores that sold out of GTA Vice City when it came out.
I have no problem telling the store clerks that I do not want to pre-order any games today.

going off on PA's commentary on pre-ordering:
except for special givaways (zelda and rogue squadron), whats the exact reasoning for pre-ordering a game? games rarely sell out. the only recent one i've actually seen sell out at multiple stores in the area is kotor.

I think pre-ordering only got really popular after the PS2 hit, and nobody had one. Now everyone's terrified that they won't get their hands on the Next Big Thing until six months after everyone else, so they plunk down cash ahead of time to avoid ulcers.
I'm a little irked, myself, because about a month ago the guys at EB were trying to pressure me into pre-ordering Soul Calibur II (Namco's sending me a copy, so fuck that shit), and then just the other day I walked in there and they had racks and racks full of the thing. No shortage in sight, and this only a few days after the release. Whores!

I would add the new Smackdown and Legacy of Kain to that list. And don't forget about Halo 2 when it comes out in 2009!

I'm with you on the new Legacy of Kain.
Also, what is with the guys at EB and the pre-ordering pressuring tactics? Who's to say that I'll want Final Fantasy Tactics Advance right when it comes out at full retail cost? By that time, I may still be playing Disgaea and would rather wait for the price to go down on FFTA instead of buying it and having no time to play it.

Pre-ordering is a great deal if you are interested in a game and know that you will be buying it when it comes out. My philosophy is if I'm going to buy it anyway, why not put $5 towards it to guarantee a copy and that way you don't have to worry about whether or not it will be in the store when you get there. Now this policy does not work with all retailers though. In the area I live in, my company is the only one that guarantees pre-orders. The others, EB and Game Crazy, do not. They "pre-order" it for you, but do not hold it and call you when it comes in. So in that case, what's the point? But with my company, it saves you the hassle. And I don't know about you, but I'm not all about waking up early and going out to find a game I want. I'd rather reserve it, sleep in and know it's going to be there when I wander out into town around four in the afternoon...

Mici works at Gamestop BTW and that is where I buy almost all my games.

A major reason to pre-order, especially from the online retailers like EBGames, is like Jake said: a bonus!!
For example, EBGames are offering the following:
*Free shipping for Viewtiful Joe
*Free shipping for Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes
*Free bonus disc for Rogue Squadron III
*Free bonus disc for Mario Kart: Double Dash
*Plus, there's no tax added in NYS at EBGames.

Yes, I work at GameStop. But for the record, I don't pressure anyone into anything. It's not our way. I will ask you if there's anything you want a date on sometimes, but that does not mean I am looking for you to pre-order it.
