GameMan

A home made giant Game BoyFirst some food for thought about video gaming.

Double feature: Films, video games team up from The Seattle Times.

Last year, movies made about $8.35 billion at the U.S. box office. Video games made $6.35 billion in U.S. software sales alone, more than 2-1/2 times the revenues of 1995. This year, estimates put earnings at between $7 billion and $10 billion.

Here are some IDSA video-game figures to chew on:

It's still mostly guys. Seventy-two percent of console players (PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube) and 62 percent of computer-game players are male.
Note from Jake:(38% of a $7 to $10 billion market is controled by women that is nothing to sneaze at.)

They're older than you think; 45 percent of console players are under 18, 36 percent are 18-35, and 19 percent are over 36. Thirty-four percent of PC players are under 18, 26 percent are 18-35, and 40 percent are over 36.

Grown-ups control the wallet. People over 18 bought more than 90 percent of all games sold last year.

Then something stupid but really cool. The GameMan Project

me want video game!! hehe...actually, i'm still mostly amused by playing Q*bert & Joust...

Well you came to the right place.

Have you ever played MAME ?

I didn't call this site 128-Bit Joystick for a reason

mame is the name of the game around these here parts, pardner...;) my darlin' must have close to 100 old games downloaded into our comp...everything from old asteroids, to tempest, to Q*bert, to Joust (my faves), to Galaga & one that i really like called Raiden (at least that's what the name "looks" like!)...old school games are the best!!

nobodies posted in 1 day short of two years here, but just in case someone stumbles upon it:

Jake, i dont know exactly why you put a note on your own artictle, but youve officially made women break the standard 100% total statistic, as their 38% brings the gaming population up to a whopping 110 percent!

also, i cant say "game man"

unless i say it very stoccato, or slowly, it comes out "gay man" every time.

tee hee hee....
