Gameboy Micro Hands On
This weekend I saw that Pink Godzilla Games over in Seattle got in some import Gameboy Micro systems from Japan before they main American release. They stock the old school Famicom retro styled one and the pink Gameboy Micro that is not scheduled for a US release. I got to play with it for a bit and I was a bit taken back at how small it is. I mean I knew it was small but damn!

The digital pad and buttons were comfortable but the screen was so small that I had to hold it right in front of my face in order to see anything. It is pretty cool that they were able to cram a Gameboy Advance into such a small form factor and I am sure that it will propel Gameboy Advance game sales even further. I am going to take a pass because I didn't like the fact that you can't hold it in front of you like a book but you have to hold it up to your face.
It sucks that it can't play Gameboy and Gameboy color carts and it sucks that it can't link with a Gameboy Advance, Gamecube or a DS without special adaptors.
It was cool how bright the screen was and the fact that it had a decent headphone jack. I swear the entire unit is about two thirds the size of a classic NES gamepad. This is an interesting entry in the market but I am not going to pass up my Gameboy Advance SP, Gameboy Player or Nintendo DS for a Gameboy Micro. I also prefer the clam shell design of the DS and SP. I would be worried about scratching the screen on the Gameboy Micro.
Damn Nintendo this is the FIFTH game system that can play Gameboy Advance games. Hypothetically if I were going to get one I would get the retro Famicom styled one. It is small almost TOO small but I am sure that it will be a hit with cellphone crazy kids.
