Flavored with Special Sauce

PETA UnHappy MealMy review of Redhat Linux 9 is going to be longer than I first thought so I thought that I would share a collection of tidbits about McDonald's that I have been saving.

The image to your right is a PETA made "Un-HappyMeal". You know the money that PETA must spend on their lawyers could probably feed a small country tofu for life.

McDonald's tries for healthier image
It is not a joke, but rather the big question that has been troubling the people who run the fast-food giant. Falling sales and the first loss in the company's history have forced them to think about radical changes.

That would be a damn good idea. I do think they could do more to make all of their items less hazardous to the public health. I am not talking about radical changes but the fact that a Big Mac and Fries value meal is 93% the USDA suggested limit of fat could be changed with out destroying the buisness.

McDonald's goes upmarket
Fast food giant McDonald's says it is changing direction, after suffering the first loss in its 55-year history. The firm's executives have conceded that its approach is out of date and would now change to give more healthy food and higher quality burgers
No shit Sherlock! Anyone who has eaten at Wendy's in the last ten years can see that McDonalds could be doing things better for their image. Not to mention there is probably half the smack in the USA being done in McDonald's bathrooms.

McDonald's plans Indian expansion
Via McDonald's India.
Keeping in mind the religious sentiments of the local population, we made a commitment not to introduce beef or pork products into our menu. We instead, created a product similar to the Big Mac with mutton and chicken patties and christened them the Maharaja Mac and Chicken Maharaja Mac respectively.
Now that actually sounds pretty damn tasty. When I was in Japan I had a McTeriyaki Burger that was divine. It is a damn shame that they have never seen the light of day in the US. It looks like McDonald's corporate HQ should take a look at how McDonald's India is running things.

Billions and Billions in Servitude
Kuro5hin has a funny but some what insane look at the political structure of McDonaldland.

Snopes has a collection of false Urban legends about McDonalds milkshakes. I can see where the legends started.

McDonaldization is a collection of essays on what corporate run fast food is doing to our culture. It is a look at the social impact of the Quarter-Pounder.

And finally the Stock price of McDonald's aka MCD.

Update: Why Microsoft is like McDonald's

There is indeed a McKiwiburger.

Have you had your break today?

I happen to know 2 people who work at McDonalds and they have an active recruitment campaign @ http://www.smartchoice.co.nz

NZ has the Kiwiburger (Big Mac with Beetfruit) and the Megafeast (endorsed by Jonah Lomu and backed by a cheesy ad). Needless to say, I haven't dined there in a couple of months (Subway gets my patronage more)

One book to read about McDs is Behind the Arches - I got it a few years back and it was quite interesting.

Ray krock was an amazing guy and so was colonel Sanders. I admire both of thier life stories. It is real simple for Americans and the rest of the world. I f you like McDonalds....eat there. It's funny, Australian McDonald's menus say "fries" but if you order "fries" they look at you funny, you have to say "sorry, I meant chips."

Australian McDonald's also have "McFeast" which is a lot like the Big 'n Tasty here (but they had them long before the Big 'n Tasty existed). Also, for the record, Australian McDonald's is actually really good.

Last, I won't eat at Wendy's ever again, due to an incident with a coworker I once had who had a cancerous chicken sandwich... we had to take her to the hospital...

Fuckin' PETA. "Pigs are friends, not food?" Have they ever even MET a pig? Those things are total bastards, man. They'll steal your job, sleep with your wife and sell your kids to evil-smelling pimps in Tijuana before they'll even say hello. What the hell kind of friend does that? Whatever sort of horrible fate awaits them in slaughterhouses, it's not horrible enough.

I'm a resident of Australia, and McDonalds is certainly making "big" changes. They're sticking these nutritional information posters up, explaining the "nutrition" of their food.

The only decent thing they ever made was the McOz burger. Actually had some vegetables in it...

Oh yeah, the fries thing. What's with them using an American expression over here? It's CHIPS! All in all, McDonalds is crap.

I like to think that if they are think like steak cut they are chips and if they are thin then they are fries but I agree that they should localize. But yeah I don't eat there anymore.
