Fear and Loathing at Siggraph Part 1
My company has sent me on a business trip to Los Angles to attend the Siggraph 2005 conference. For those of you who are not extreem nerds Siggraph is the ultimate convention and trade show for all sorts of computer graphics, computer animation and programming and development of computer graphics.
It is pretty cool that they sent me and some fellow coworkers down to LA for the week and there are some extremely nerdy presentations. This is sort of the annual computer animators convention for 3d dorks from all over the world.
This is the first time I have been to LA since I went to Disneyland as a little kid. I tell ya that LA has about as much in common with Seattle as New York does with Miami. I can't believe the extreme differences between rich and poor. The area around the convention center is nice enough but one of the neighbor hoods that I have to walk through to get there from my hotel is straight out of Baja California. It is safe but the income level of your typical occupant changes by three digits when you cross a highway. All the stereotypical views of LA that your typical settle guy has are unfolding in front of me.
I paid three bucks for a Pepsi at the convention center but at least there is free Wifi all over. You are not really supposed to be taking any pictures of the presentations but there is still plenty of stuff to see. I took a whole bunch of Siggraph shots and added them to my Flickr account.
I met some artists from Konami today and I flattered them in Japanese.
I get to hear George Lucas speak on Tuesday. I am going to ask him if he planned on Luke to make out with his sister and for Darth Vader to make C3PO. Woo!

To nuts with that - ask George what the best pie is.

George likes a nice Ewok stout meat pie.
