Even After Software Update Wii Storage Problems Persist
Today Nintendo released a new version of the Wii software and I installed it via the built-in software update. Everybody in the world that has taken their Wii online received a message about it and millions upgraded. They included a new version of the Wii store and this was a perfect opportunity to enable Virtual Console games to be stored and run directly off the SD card slot or enable games to be run off a USB storage device. However they didn't do that. My Wii is still full.
I tried out the new store and ran into the same space and channel restrictions as before. I wanted to buy Sega's Shining Force and Paper Mario for the Virtual Console but I had to delete a bunch of titles from my Wii system memory in order to make space for them. I had all of my purchased Wii Virtual Console titles copied to my SD card but I still can't run them directly off the card and if I want to play one of the games that I deleted to make space for Paper Mario I will have to delete some other game and copy it off the card since it can't be run directly off the card. Later on when Neo-Geo games are added to the Virtual Console and they start to sell original software titles for their Wii Ware line Nintendo will have to address this problem with the Wii's software if they want to continue to keep selling Virtual Console titles to those folks who has hit the upper limit of their Wii internal memory.
I did get Paper Mario and Shining Force but I didn't enjoy having to delete a bunch of Wii VC channels in order to make room when this could be addressed via software.

The point that you brought up is probably the worst part of the Wii firmware as it just does not make logical sense. I thought that the Wii was meant to be a user friendly console.
