My girlfriend Kymberly claims that she does not watch "Chick Flicks" but yet she loves her DVDs of Bridget Jone's Diary, Love Actually and Down With Love.
I think that is OK like most things in moderation but she needs to come to terms with the fact that it is OK.
The format is pretty wide and there is a few films that I personally like that might be considered to be a chick flick.
1. Chasing Amy
2. The Princess Bride
3. The Bride with White Hair
4. Chunking Express
5. Say Anything
I am secure enough in my masculinity to get off my chest. There are five films that I like that one might call a "chick flick".
Update: My definition of a chick flick is
Chick Flick
Noun : A movie with a plot based on romance, finding true love, dealing with the loss of love, and finding your place in life. Often with a female leads and perspective. A movie that you could see female patrons watching while eating ice cream alone. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

I think you also have to look at the definition of "chick flick" as well. Your definition of a chick flick may not be the same as someone else's. I agree that Bridget Jone's Diary and Love Actually are not chick flicks. I would call them comedy's.

Chasing Amy is good but it is no chick flick, it's told from the guy's perspective and has a lot of gross out humor.

I wouldn't consider The Princess Bride a chick flick. It's more like a cult classic. I never watched it till my boyfriend bought it for me. He's in love with that movie and quotes it at least once a week.

See I told you Bridget Jone's Diary is not a chick flick. Down with Love, I like because its 60's camp, that is way over the top. Love Actually, I haven't seen yet, just looking forward to looking at all the hot brit boys. And by the way, Jake bought the Love Actually dvd for me.

I saw the beginning of Bridget Jones Diary on tv once. It was Renee Zellweger sitting on her bed in pajamas crying and feeling sorry for herself, and singing to a sad song on the radio. I decided that was enough and that I should watch a slasher movie instead.

Say Anything isn't a chick flick!
Ok, maybe it is a chick flick. -_-

Jake,
I really don't think those movie choices you mentioned that you like ar chick flicks at all.
They are guy/nerd flicks.

Jake,
Several of the movies that I recommended as "old people flicks" to show to folks in your grandma's nursing home might qualify as "chick flicks"--what do you think?
While You Were Sleeping, Return to Me, Under the Tuscan Sun, Cocoon, Driving Miss Daisy, On Golden Pond
You probably have never seen any of these I'll bet?

Yeah I have seen Cocoon and Driving Miss Daisy.

I'm reeling over the thought of my favorite romantic comedy (While You Were Sleeping) as being an old people flick. Wow.
Anyway, Bridget Jones's Diary, Love Actually and Down With Love are all romantic comedies (or, in the case of Love Actually, romantic dramedies), not chick flicks. To me a click flick entails any combination of excessive sentiment, weeping, and silly female empowerment schemes, often with flashbacks. Examples would be Fried Green Tomatoes, Steel Magnolias, Now and Then, How to Make an American Quilt, Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood and, to some extent, Thelma and Louise. Under the Tuscan Sun probably fits my definition, but I enjoyed the movie too much to hang that loathsome label on it.

Has anyone seen the movie, "It's a Beautiful Life", now that's a movie that cannot be classified--Comedy, sort of a chick flick that turns into historical WWII drama!

Kinda like Meet the Feebles. Hard to categorize.

A chick flick in disguise: Top Gun
Yup, think about it... it's a chick flick.

Top Gun is more about a Gay flick than a chick flick. ( http://www.godamongdirectors.com/scripts/sleep.shtml )
