End of Summer Reading

parents reading a book book to some sappy kidsI just thought I would take a moment to dispel the notion that I just sit around all day and play video games. Ok well that is partially true but I do read a bit more than your typical Joe I have inherited a love of books from my father and grandfather as well as a defect that causes me to spend too much money in bookstores. I have a few selections on my shelf that I have been working through.

I am currently reading

Designing with Web Standards
By Jeffery Zeldman.
This is a good book for those web designers like me who love their xhtml and CSS layouts. Reading this makes you feel good for doing what you are doing and provides you with the ability to sneer and scowl at those who use invalid outdated HTML code that only works in IE with those who use tables and spacer gifs for layout.

Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them
By Al Franken
This is a great follow up to steady stream of half truths that the American people are expected to believe. Reading this book is probably the same experience of epiphany that a Rush Limbaugh fan gets when he first discoveries the big guy. And it is funny too boot.

The Lord of the Rings : The Two Towers
By J.R.R Tolkien
I am a sham. I am a liar and a thief. Trixy hobbits. I have never read the Lord of the Rings from front to end. But I am going to embark in an epic quest to finish reading the trilogy from front to end before the Return of the King comes out at the end of the year.

Megatokyo Vol 1
by Fred Gallagher
This is a very cool mini manga based on one of the best web comics in the world but printed out in book form with commentary by the author.

There you go. Now you can't say that I am an illiterate dork who will only talk about video games and Kung-Fu movies.

Yeah, time for me to pick up that Zeldman book. My commitment to CSS layout has been neglegient at best -- and I don't want to sneered and scowled at.

I dunno Trapp your site is close to valid XHTML if you put "" on all your IMG attributes and used special symbols for your Ampersands & it would validate They only time that you are using a table is for the calender that is is OK.

OK, OK...I called you a dork, but I never claimed you were illiterate!

"...those who use tables and spacer gifs for layout..."

*shudders*

CSS rules. I never checked out XHTML much but I used to use a lot of DHTML (cross browser of course). I was hardcore into slamming artists and designers that used insane amounts of tables and spacer.gifs (ech pooey!) like it was still 1998 or something when I used to do web dev. =) I have ultimate respect for people that can use CSS effectively.

I still use such tables and spacer gifs because I love 1998.

Shun me if you will, but I'm straight-up representin' old skool dev, yo.
