Downloading MP3s Shutdown Poser Hipsters MTV Raver Club
I was blown away by the new RIAA TV ads about the evils of sharing and downloading unauthorized music on the Internet. The ad debuted on the Grammys and rather than focusing on professional pirates who make high quality unauthorized CDs in China and Mexico they are wasting money on buying TV ad space in a deceptive campaign. Or they could actually stop making crap music and actually pay the musicians what they are really worth instead of trying to engage in this bullshit ontological warfare PR.
The ad features trendy pretentious 20-something poser hipsters raving out in a MTV approved club and a girl on a notebook downloads a five meg file called "Music" and it wipes out the power and music in the poser club.
I thought the ad was awesome and it made me want to go trade and download music!
Besides the Grammys are the awards given to who has been the biggest corporate rock whore that year. No musician I care about ever does well there except Moby. Moby is against anti-copy DRM cds by the way.
Actually Moby is quoted on the site.
Moby
"Well, the whole reason I started making music is cause I love music and I'm flattered if anyone makes an effort to listen to my music whether they buy a CD, whether they do a legal download, whether they download something illegally, whether they listen to it at a friend's house. I just am flattered and honored when someone makes the effort to listen to my music. So, of course I support legal downloading, but, to be honest with you I'm pleased if someone downloads my music illegally. Again I feel quite flattered."
Hmm... That is not the MP3 is evil rant I was expecting from the RIAA.

I found a site where you can search for an artist, music label, or even a UPC code to see if any music you plan on downloading is restricted by the RIAA or safe for download. The address is http://www.magnetbox.com/riaa and the site is called RIAA Radar.

Yeah I saw that. It made me want to see the Vh-1 Made for TV movie about the PMRC where Dee Snyder of Twisted Sister played himself
