Digital Cameras Will Steal Your Soul!
Sunday I was over in Seattle and was in Lower Queen Anne after following BBQ to his place of business as king of the bad videos. I was going to catch a bus downtown to China town because I had a hankering for some MSG and Japanese loot.
It was about sun set and there was a large group of bubbles floating down towards all the people waiting at the bus stop. I saw that there was a somewhat normal looking guy in his late teens early 20s who was blowing bubbles from a kid's bubbles set and it was taking to the wind.
This guy was clearly seeking public attention from strangers so I turning on my digital camera that was in my coat pocket and walked by him and waited for him to blow another big cloud of bubbles and I took a picture with a flash enabled. He stopped blowing bubbles and turned to me and said "Hey!".
I returned to my seat at the bus stop and the bubble blowing guy followed me and stopped me and explained that he did not like pictures taken of him. I explained that I owned the copyright to my pictures and it was a free country. I had the same right to take his picture in public as he does blowing bubbles at me. He said that when a picture if him is recorded on film it takes a bit of his soul. I responded.
"Ohhh I did not realize that you were insane! This is digital"
So I pretended to erase the picture by pretending to press some buttons on my camera and told him that it was all erased. He then went back to his bench and did not blow bubbles at me again.
I was just thinking that they guy was an attention whore and was going out of his way to get public attention. I had no idea that he was nuts.
The entire affair reminded me of how people with cell phone headsets are occasionally indistinguishable from the delusional schizophrenic who carry one conversations with no one visible.
I still have my picture of the guy blowing bubbles on my camera's memory card.

If the guy didn't want his picture taken why do you have to be a dick about it? Obviously he has a problem with it so take your camera and shove it up your ass a little next time, ok? Not everything needs to be recorded digitally. Have you no memory? Can't you just sit and enjoy something without having to tack it on your wall or use it as a computer background? Who's the attention whore here anyway? The guy blowing bubbles who doesn't appreciate random idiots taking pictures of him or the fool that went and posted a long ass blog about it for all to see? I'd choose the latter.
