Database Demon Begone! I cast you OUT!

Database DemonSo Pete asked :
What happened? You should do a web geek post on what can happen when things go awry in movable type....that would be really interesting i think. Plus if i try to use it it will teach me a thing or two.

There is not really much to say. Berkeley DB is the first database system to work with MT and it is the worst. It can get corrupted and not build your web site's properly. I was able to export all the data from the blog into an external file. Then I set up a MySQL database and converted my existing Berkeley DB over to MySQL system according to the MT documentation. It went well but it didn't import any of the comments on any post. So I had to delete all 1500 entries and re-import them from the external file. The whole process took up about two hours on Saturday night and I can sleep better now knowing that my data is backedup and is more secure that it was last week.

Listening to some good techno and drinking some orange juice made the whole process easier to get through.

By the way I don't think your post caused any problems it was probably just bad luck that it was the time that the database started to crap out.

I am just glad that demons did not eat my data like they did the last time that Berkeley DB crapped out on me.

And to think I was thinking about moving over to using MT instead of Greymatter. Greymatter may have it's issues, but I think I am better off.

Well the problem was with Berkeley DB not MT. What database system or method of data storage are you using on your site? I suggest you stick with what ever works for you.

Well i thought it would be a bit strange if my post on thelma caused a rift in the space-time continuum that eats databases like a langolier. You never know when you are dealing with lizard aliens from mars that infect you with venom and eat small children....anything could happen.
