Da PSP aint no Video iPod

I think that all these tech pundits that claimed that the Sony Playstation Portable was going to replace the iPod and portable DVD players by being able to playback digital video have never tried to actually get recorded TV shows on a PSP. I have been trying to get TV shows that I recorded to a DVD+R with my DVD-Recorder re-encoded and onto my PSP Memory Stick and I can't believe what a major pain in the ass that it is. I have been using PSPware and the DVD support has been spotty at best.

I love my PSP and I love some multimedia content on it but until there is some major usability changes with formatting video content for it it no way a "Video iPod"

I disagree. I mean, even if we had a Quote unQuote Video iPod, you'd still be going through conversion gymnastics, unless you were buying the pre-packaged video from somewhere. THAT's what I am hoping will start happening more and more for the PSP.

I disagree also. I have had no issues getting video to or watching said video on my PSP. Perhaps you should try different software. I use pspvideo9 ( http://www.pspvideo9.com/ ) with no problems at all. Granted, the PSP does have limited capacity with it's memory stick format, but I believe an external hard drive will be available eventually. Personally, I am looking forward to E3 to see what's in store.

I have done over 150 encodes for the PSP, mostly transformers (the entire original 3 seasons).

What are you having problems with? I've never used PSPWare, but I've heard that it is a very good program. I personally use 3GP. Here is a very good Video Transfer Guide written by the guys over at PSP-Vault.com:

My only gripe with this is the renaming it does on the video files. Hope you have better luck with it! :)

My probems are when I encode a video it will play back ok on my Mac but I get a corrupted data error after the video clip has been tranfered to the PSP. I used PSPWare to encode and transfer the video.

I've had better luck with iPSP on my PowerBook than I've had with PSPware. Even with a 1GB stick, the process of converting a video is tedious, time-consuming, and -in the end- leaves me with a result I'm just not interested in.

I have a Toshiba D-KR2 DVD recorder. I dump alot to DVD-RW, and cycle between several discs. The process of converting the latest "CSI" to small-framed mp4 and saving an episode or two to my PSP isn't that rewarding. I'd rather watch serial television on a larger screen... I might watch TV on my PSP if it were zero-effort sync'ed or streamed by internet. To convert, to save, to consume a memory stick, to watch, to erase, to repeat is a laborious process best reserved for shampoos and conditioners. :D

I bought a 1gb mem stick on dell.com for $80 on sale(they sold out once the link was posted on sony's psp forum).

Honestly, I use my PSP more to watch video now than play games. I put all the anime eps and stuff I encode on it all the time. I use pspvideo9 to encode it using the new higher compression/better quality codec that came out with the firmware update. Other than a bit of sound desync now and then, I have no complaints.

is there such a programme that enables ipods to extract music from multiple PC's, which technically is desync-ing the ipod? the current system only allows ipods to be affiliated with one itune PC library
