Castlevania on PS2 This Fall!

Harmony PowerWord out of Konami is that the long rumored PS2 2D Castlevania game is going to be out in the fall of 2003.

The man with the plan in charge of bring the Belmonts to PS2 is Koji Igarashi, producer of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance and Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow.

Also the game will be on display at the next E3 and will probably be officially named and dated there.

I can already hearing BBQ running around in a circle celebrating the news.

I need to go stock up on garlic, holy water and sharp sticks.

Update: I just thought I would add a question from the producer of Castlevainia PS2 Koji Igarashi from his interview with PSM

PSM: Hardcore gamers know that some types of games still work better in 2D. In the future, do you think that 2D might regain some of its lost popularity with the mass market?

KI: Since the game industry is movie-directed, I suppose it's natural that players' interest in 2D games is becoming dimmer. I myself believe that the popularity of 2D hasn't faded away as of yet - I firmly believe that real 2D games with fun elements haven't been delivered to gamers in a long time, that's all. Therefore, 2D fading away will never happen!

I, for one, will never get tired of 2D games. I tend to prefer the 2D or even 2.5D video games to the 3D simulated games. For one they don't seem to have nearly as many camera angle issues which can make or break a game. And, secondly, for someone, like myself, who has epileptic tendencies, it's not as hard to focus. There are many great games out there that are not 3D that I would and could play numerous times, where as most 3D games I play, and if I beat them at all, will never touch them again once I have beaten it. The true sign of a good game is it's replay value. And by that I am not talking about secret endings and extra costumes.

Castlevania lives! My heart told me it would happen, but I needed someone to tell me IT'S TRUE! Now I can do all the backflips and cartwheels and spinaroonies I want. But DUDE...why PS2 and not the dope power of Xbox??

Because Microsoft is inferior in it's customer base?

Just a guess.

Well almost no one in Japan has an Xbox and there were two games on the PSOne. Also the N64 games are not regarded as the highlight of the series so that rules out the Gamecube.

Besides everyone at Xbox is busy making Extreme NFL Halo Street Hoops 2k4.

But DUDE!!... Xbox can produce HALO-CALIBUR 3D GRAPHICS!!! It is hella dope yo! PS2 just doesn't have the same level of dopeness as the Xbox...The dope-o-meter said so! I can't contain myself...I gotta go find another pimp juice to play a wiggedy wack game of Halo against, dawg! Keep it real and shizzle to my nizzle!

Heres a neat trick in the original Castlevania game for the nes,to kill the grim reaper with out getting hit,1:make sure you get the holy water,2: get the triple shot block,3:Don't die before you get too the reaper, get too the reaper before he comes down get as close to him as you can(on a block below the reaper)jump up and continually through the holy water at him,do this enough times and the reaper will be history!

Yes BBQ can beat the game without really dying or taking much dammage. He is now into Castlevaniea Cronicles on time attack mode.

Castlevania rules ! I can't wait to play and conquer this new PS2 version! I solved 1,2,3 for the Nintendo, Bloodlines for Sega, Caslevania for PS1, and hopefully this one. Next to the hockey games castlevanias are probably my fav! - Jim Allan

Has anyone heard anything outside the fact that Castlevania for the PS2 will be released this fall and will be another 2D gemstone? I'm dying to know more about the game. Please add a comment to this discussion if you know anything. If nobody knows anything, then we'll all just have to wait 'till E3. I hope that there will be as many or more weapons, spells, secrets, etc. and the graphics/music will be on par or better than SOTN for the PS1. I'm sure that Koji Igarashi will not dissappoint.....

Symphony of the Night was done with only two megs of RAM and a 2x CD Rom drive in the PSOne. the PS2 Castlevania game will have 32 MEGS of ram and a DVD rom drive. that is over 16 times the amount of frames of Symphony. The artwork will probably be 2d- but have 3d elements mixed into the backgrounds and some 3d Hybrid monsters. Not much is known except it is most of the same staff that did Symphony of the Night and Rondo of Blood. It is the game that I am most excited about in 2003.

I heard that it's the 11 century, and that your someone from the Belmont family so it's probably the first battle between Belmont and Dracula.

This game is going to be shown at E3 so Wednesday all will be reveled and the months of guessing and questionable speculation will end.

Symphony of the Night was bad ass with only 2 rams on a cd rom drive, that makes me wonder if this game is gonna be bad ass too, i'll bet it will, buit they need to put Alucard in it, it would be much better, but like in a different time frame, and different Castlevania and such, then it would be much better.
