Case Was a Console Cowboy
This Saturday night I spent the night crashed at my friend BBQ's place because my train got in town late and I had an early meeting the next day. We had a good time but I accidently left my iBook AC adaptor at his place and then I headed back to Bremerton across the Puget Sound. He mailed it to me so hopefully I should get it later on this week but I need to ration my computer use and make the battery charge last until then.
I was thinking about getting an extra AC adaptor but the closest Apple Store is down in Southcenter Mall and since I got back from a trip I don't feel like driving down to a mall for an hour and a half in Rush hour traffic in I-5 and then driving an hour and a half back just to get a damn AC adaptor. I read that the Apple brand AC adaptors can tend to snap at the base under heavy use but so far I have not had any problems and Apple charges $80 bucks for an extra AC adaptor.
Luckily the Mac accessory company MacAlly makes a good usable replacement AC adaptor that is not as sexy as Apple's one but it is half the price and pretty durable. I plan on keeping using my iBook for quite a long time so I think that this is a good investment in the long run. It had some good reviews on Amazon.
So for the next three days or so I need to ration my time using my computer and the weird thing is that when you know your time is limited you want to use your computer even more. Personal Computers are really personal things and they act as an extension of your personality so it is annoying when your time is limited.
My friend and fellow nerd Chris Prillo is trying to not use Google for a week and I think I got that beat because I am having to limit my personal computer use to around four hours a week. This entire ordeal is quite cyberpunk. I have said before that the choice of your PC and OS is a very influential and personal thing. I might re-read William Gibson's Neuromancer when my battery dies before my replacement comes.
Update: Luckily BBQ mailed it off on Monday and it arrived today so I was without my AC adaptor for only a day but I did learn a valuable lesson.
