Can't wait to get my Generation NEX at Pink Godzilla

On Saturday BBQ and I fulfilled our nerdish duty and made a pilgrimage to the holy land of Pink Godzilla Games down in the International District Seattle. This was the first time that BBQ has been there but he is town with import games since he gets most of his classic and import gaming fix off the internet. The cool thing of going to Pink Godzilla Games is the ability to see cool classic and import games and physically see them and walk out with them after handing over your cash with out having to screw with eBay or mail order.

This is just a few minutes from BBQ's place via a bus ride and then we were ready for some extreme geekdom. We had a damn good time spending about an hour and a half going through all the cool stuff. I was shocked to find out that they do not have any Famicom to Nes adapters in stock so I could not play a Japanese Famicom game in an American NES. BBQ has an Famicom to Nes adapter and it ends up that they have Nes to Famicom adapters that would let you play a American game on a Japanese Nintendo Famicom. There also had this cool adapter that lets you play 8bit Famicom games on a Gameboy Advance SP.

I did not feel like shelling out a hundred and fifty for a Famicom system and the dealer was quite informative and encouraged me to wait for a new game console that will be out after August 20 at the Classic Gaming Expo. The company Messiah Entertainment is going to be releasing a legal 8bit Nes Famicom clone in the US. This thing is going to be called the Generation NEX. Messiah already makes a very cool wireless 2.4 ghz. controllers for Nes and Super Nintendo and this new Generation NEX is going to be pretty damn cool. It will be able to play all existing Nes games, all existing controllers, all existing Famicom games, AV hookup with replicated Mono for the other speaker on a stereo TV, built in Wireless controller support and Rumble support in the wired Generation NEX controller. I don't know how they are going to pull off the rumble support since there is no rumble in Nes games. This thing is supposed to be much more reliable than the original Nes since there is a direct cartridge connection and you don't have to deal with the toaster loading thingie. They are going to sell them for $60 and I can't wait to get mine with some Famicom games. The NES games are loaded in the front and the Famicom games are loaded in the top. It is sort of wrong that the two video game systems that I am the most excited about are the Nintendo Revolution and a redesigned smaller Nes clone made with modern technology.

I ended up getting a Famicom game of Macross, Nes version of Kid Icarus, Super Famicom version of Bomberman 3 and a puzzle game staring that guy from Geoman. Then later at EB I got Retro Atari for the Nintendo DS. I am going to have to check out Pink Godzilla every time I stop by Seattle.

Next time I go there I am going to have them install a flip top lid in my PSTwo so I can play import PS2 games.

Here is a picture of a rather cheeky Chun Li vinyl model that we saw in the hobby shop right across from Pink Godzilla Games

That is a great store, there should be one on every block. You should look inside your Alien Hominid case...You will see that I have removed and hidden the disc. In order to find it, you will have to decipher a series of clues, each more devious than the last. Your first clue is: "Rosebud."

Hint: It's at my place, along with your panties. The ones you soiled when I made you tap out in that hell in the cell match. Hee hee hee!!

The Generation Nex console's rumble feature will be triggered from the in-game audio. They split the sound signal from the game and send a portion of it to the controller. (in other words it will work with ALL games) It's been discussed heavily in detail over at DigitalPress...

I've got some Goldenkey NES/FAMICOM adapters new in box (made by Sachen, very rare company) that allow you to play famicom games on NTSC, PAL or SECAM systems, (just about any system around the world).(estimate $35)

I just got my Generation NEX today. First off, the included controller is terrible. The buttons are slanted, the thing is tiny, and it's an awkward button layout to begin with. The sound on all the games (incl. SMB3) is off and not accurate (compared to being played on an original NES). Huge bummer. Also, games like River City Ransom do weird stuff when you play them, including garbleing up the menus, changing colors, and generally not working properly. Did they even test this thing? How hard could it be to make a 100% compatible NES clone in 2005? I would warn everyone to stay away from this. For $60 You could get an original NES with a new 72-pin connector in it, some REAL NES controllers, and some decent games. Avoid and get the real thing.
