Ask Not for Who the Blog Tolls For it Tolls for You
I think one of the biggest problems with weblogs are how many people try them out and then abandon them.
A recent media survey of blogs just determined them to have a high abandonment rate and many of them end up covered with cobwebs.
Update: Brendoman addsThat poll is incredibly biased. First they used a rather small sample to reflect an extremely large number of blogs. They only polled users of hosted services such as blogger and the like. They didn't take into account Movable Type, GreyMatter, or other non-hosted services. These tend to be the more consistent bloggers.
I try to update every weeknight and once a weekend. When I don't I do get a slight feeling of guilt but then I remember that this is a hobby and not a job. I don't pay my bills by doing this but I do feel a sense of responsibility to the people who like to read this site to have a steady stream of stuff to read.
Oh the GW Bush 04 committee just started a "blog". But there is no personal information, reader comments and feedback or personal involvement from the main subject matter in this case Bush.
I don't think this qualifies as a blog but rather an online press release board.
I think the Dean bloggers had a perfect response to this.
Mr. President, I'm a blogger. I know blogs. Bloggers are friends of mine. And your site, sir, is not a blog.

well, i did a count recently, and i've had over 20 different blogs, with only three being updated consistently/frequently (it almost counts as two since i put all the stuff from my blogger acct into my MT blog)...(11 were on xanga, which is a hosted service, btw) ::shrugs::

I've also gone thru that phase of starting up a blog but then never updating it. Probably like everyone else, I had a blogger, LJ, xanga, etc etc acct but now things are pretty cool. To me, nothing like hosted it yourself and I tend to just post whenever.

i suppose my blog count under the rather abandoned ones. but then it's not really a blog that i keep but a site of information collection where i like to post something every some days or even weeks. but hell, i only got two entries the last month! call me lazy but i have too many stuff around me to do!
