An Open Letter about the PlayStation 3 Launch
To those people standing in line for days.
You people are tools. Sony is attempting to generate hype around their console by releasing it in extremely limited supply right before the Thanksgiving/Christmas shopping madness officially begins. When a videogame system first comes out the limited amount of games on market at that time are not allways steller. It usually take a while for game studios to start cranking out decent games for the new hardware. If you can't get one breath into a paper bag for a while and wait for a steady supply of consoles and better games. Or buckle in and get a Wii, Xbox 360, DS Lite or PSP. I just took a half and hour early lunch the day that Wii reservations started and I am going to calmly pick it up on Sunday with no camping. Also you do have a decent HDTV right? There is no point to get a PS3 if don't have a decent HDTV set up. You can bank on the fact that there is going to be some defective units in the first batch of the system. Don't you people have jobs? How are you going to afford $600 + on a PS3 if you don't go to freaking work? Don't believe the hype people. There are plenty of good games on the PS2 and other systems to tide you over until you can get a PS3.

To the people camping out to buy a PS3 in order to scalp it.
You people are also tools of Sony. Did you also scalp Tickle-me Elmos, Beanie Babies and Cabbage Patch Kids? If you applied he same capitalistic zeal for more constructive purposes perhaps our standing in the global economy would be better off.
To the people who are willing to pay over $2000 on eBay or to a scalper for a PS3
Not only are you tools but you have too much money and you seriously need to get laid. Go out and have a nice dinner with your wife/girlfriend if you have one but I seriously doubt you do considering your want to spend over two grand of a freaking PS3. Not only are you a tool but you need some serious professional counseling and to get laid. If you really want to potentially blow a large amount of money on a risky investment there are plenty of on line stock brokers for you.

Looks like I will not be getting one as I have a RPHDTV that does that.

Well that sucks. My Xbox 360 can do 1080i just fine. I just saw a banner ad for Microsoft that said "Xbox 360 Next Gen NOW!" basically implying that you can actually buy one this holiday season.

I never got to interview those crazy bastards. But, yeah, I'd generally say they are total tools.

I went to target the other night with my mom to use her gift card to buy... cold medicine. and half of a game I wa purchasing for... the 360.
There were people waiting in line at the side of the building for PS3. That was on Wedsday night. No game system is worth waiting in line for at release, worth paying over MSRP for.
It's just silly. I'm going to get a Wii. Maybe not tomorrow, but sometime this year.

I understand that people who are willing to spend several days camping otuside a store may seem like "tools" or fools to those who don't know any better.
To the author of the article - I'm not a tool, I'm just a hungry college student who only skipped one class while standing in line for 37 hours (yes, from Wednesday night till Friday morning). It's the lissez faire - "hands off" - type of capitalism: I stood in line with a couple of friends (who joined me for a relatively small fee), sold my 3 PS3's on eBay, and made ~$3,000 total profit. :P And the global economy can go to hell for all I care. Things like our little cowboy adventure in Iraq ($500 billion and counting) and a $223,000,000 "bridge to nowhere" built for a town with fewer than 100 people in Alaska - things like those are the main reasons people don't have faith in their government.
I was there to make money. It was also an adventure. Being able to brag about it in the future. A fun experience. A chance to meet new people. And, of course, making money. =) My goal is to have enough money to retire by the age of 40. Do you know why? Because I'm too damn tired of this corrupt world and idiots like you, Jake.

Let met get this straight you are against the war in Iraq but you subscribe to right-wing Lasse faire economic theory and you think waiting in line for days for a PS3 is a good way to express it? And your main economic motivator to make money to go live in a shack after you are 40 because you are antisocial and want to drop out of society. Wow I don't know what to say. So you like meeting people who are a part of a corrupt world? I actually have a job and don't need to stand out side in line for a PS3 related fencing scheme. I still think you are a tool.
I myself drove to my local game store and got my Wii at midnight with about five minutes of waiting in line. Call me a happy boy.

Post your first impressions of the Wii already! I'm sick of reading fanboy critiques from 12yr old kids. Give us the skinny on the Wii! (Boy, that's a sentence I never thought I'd have to type...)

As much as G hates the world, it's a shame he couldn't be playing one of his PS3s right now! I guess it really IS corrupt.

What I like is how G scalped not one, but three PS3's and it's the world that's corrupt... That's good stuff!

I'm a tool for waiting in line for my Wii? The closest store with the most units in my area (30 units) didn't take pre orders.
Now, here's why camping > preorder.
A preorder does NOT guarantee you a unit. It says so on the fine print man. It just means you'll EVENTUALLY get one.
I was in line for over 24 hours, I was number 5.
I would much rather camp for a Nintendo Wii, get social with the other campers, have some fun. BBQ some meat and play Mario Kart DS over the day and have some FUN (as well as bond with the brother I barley get along with) than go in, get my console, and go home.
do people that camp have jobs? Of course Jake. How the hell else could someone afford to blow a huge wad of cash AND not work? By having a good enough income to take leave and blow that money on games and a console and not have it make a dent in your income.
I can understand these people wanting these consoles really bad. Especially about the PS3 being in such limited numbers.
But some people are just plain stupid...
there ere 20 people waiting where I was for the PS3. they announced 10 units. why didn't the others go home? It doesn't make sense.
The Wii launch at the store had 30 units and i watched as the line grew to over 30. We told them. The employees told them. They still waited with hope...
I'd just up and leave but hey whatever.

I've heard only good things about Wii sports also.
I want a review!

Well Zach I just posted my Wii review

I don't have that much to say about Wii Sports. It sort of feels like a demo than a full game.

Pretty much have to agree with Jake on the tool factor. At least in some cases anyway. Anyone willing to pay 2000.00 for a PS3 really does need to get out more.... or they just have a lot of cash, and just do not want to wait in line. That being said, I don't knock anyone who scalping these, if there are big enough idiots willing to shell out the cash. I would not wait nearly 2 days to do so, but if you have the time, then go for it. If the store in your area only has 30 units, I can understand why you waited.
I really don't see how a guy expressing his opinion (Jake in this case), really makes him an idiot. Its just his opinion, you don't have to like it... no one cares if you do.

I blame Sony more than the fans, the scalpers, and the tools who stand in line. Over a year in delays, hype, and shortages made for a lackluster PS3 launch in the US.
I finally got my Sony 60GB PS3 last week with an additional controller, and 3 games. Since someone stood in line for 20 hours while I worked and slept, I ended up shelling out $1,100 for a loaded PS3 with games and accessories.
Was it worth it? In my opinion, yes. I have no regrets, and I'm happily playing Resistance: Fall of Man, Ridge Racer 7, and Call of Duty 3 on my PS3. It's the same hype and shortages we saw with the PS2, and I'm sure we'll see it again from Sony.
