A Vast Right Wing Conspiracy
As you my have noticed I moved the side bar on the main page over to the right. This was because of some rendering bugs in IE 5 Mac that I hope I have now accounted for and I realized that the whole reason for the "inverted L" design by having a menu bar on the left is rooted in fixed tables. With a fluid CSS design the menu bar that is on the right will slide over so those with smaller monitors can use it with out having to scroll.
One of the down sides is that my site now looks a bit like The Plain Jane MovableType template that I started with but I will swallow my pride and go with whatever works. I am thinking about reducing the overlap of the Joystick Logo and that there is not enough open space on the main page.
My problem with IE 5 on Mac was document in my post Bruce Campbell Teaches CSS. Enjoy
So should I put the side bar on an individual entry page? I am guessing No because it will be too long and I don't want to reduce the importance of the main page.

I am going to shrink the joystick down so there is not as much overlap

I dunno I think that it looked better on the left but i dont want you to get rid of it.

I should look into offering multiple skins so that users could pick the CSS design they like and then set a cookie to save their choice. That way everyone can be happy and those who don't can go suck eggs.

Yo Jake --
Carlos from Norlos.com here. Noticed this post. In the past I've admired both versions of your Web site. Got a question for you on CSS. I too would like the right bar on my site to remain despite the reader's small monitor size. So in CSS I set the widths in terms of percentage (right side bar gets 20%). But sometimes it still disappears. Any suggestions?
Maybe I'd just better knuckle down and get serious about XHTML and CSS. I'm a total frigging dilettante, as my blog shows. Task for this weekend: Reconcile the blue hues.

Carlos
So are you using a content publishing system like Moveable Type or Blogger?
I guess to teach your self CSS I would read the tutorials at

and
