A PC PC

I want one of these thing. It is an NEC computer that has been designed to have a low ecological impact and it is also small and very very quiet with no fan. If they had a faster video card I would be all over it but this is a PC/Linux alternative to the flat screen iMac. They are only 1500 bucks! I mean a low energy washer and dryer so why not a low energy computer? It would be fun to bring one of these to a LAN Party.

The Powermate eco is the first desktop PC engineered specifically with the environment in mind while also meeting the demands of a wide variety of workplaces. The "boxless" all-in-one unit has no fan, is constructed with a lead free motherboard and contains no boron in the LCD display. As a result, it uses less power and produces less heat than traditional PCs, and is also Energy Star compliant.

Also nVidia is making Linux is a bigger priority and is no longer treating them like 2nd class citizens by giving Windows and Mac the latest greatest Video Card drivers long before making Linux ones.

This computer has no balls at all. 1500 bucks is expensive for a computer nowdays. for that price i could build a badass machine with a g-force 4 in it. and 500 megs of ram. Easily do-able. I think this is a gimmick. The other thing that suxorz about this thing is that it is not upgradeable at all. Since the motherboard and chip are sub-standard and proprietary. 1500 bucks! sheesh....for that much you could buy a nice dell laptop that would use less power probably and you could take it with you. The Dell would be equipped with a g-force 2 as well.

Yeah but this thing has a flat screen a really small case and is totaly silent. I don't know why but the Idea of a computer with no fan is just damn cool.

yeah a silent computer would be cool i guess.

Still though the PC market is looking for gimmicks this year. I think that i could sell my 850 mhz machine for about 400 bucks and it would out-perform that machine that has a "Crusoe" processor that was designed for PDAs for gosh sakes! This thing is a ripoff aimed at young and affluent socially progressive Americans who dont care about performance unless it is in thier moms VOLVO ,....uh ....VULVA? anyway look up the Crusoe and check out how it performs. You cant even play directx 8 games on it because it couldnt handle the intense pressure created by things like "open GL" it is just sad.

Well I look forward to seeing how the thing performs in some speed tests but it still is an interesting concept. My dad is an enviromental chemist who works with nuke power so if you ever have any questions about enviromental impact he is your man to ask.

I like the phrase "environmental impact" it just sounds cool.

Hey, if you're going to spend $1500, just get a Mac! (And run linux on it if you really must.)
