A Meetup with a Microwave Oven

Wednesday night I attended another grand Seattle Weblogger Meetup. It was a blast. Multiple people said the lead singer of The Decemberists Colin Meloy looks like me. They played at this year's Bumbershoot music festival and it was nice that people thought that he looked like me and not that I looked like him. I would like to publicly state that should anyone ever make a movie about me I want him to star as me. Oh and their music video for 16 Military Wives is available free on BitTorrent and it kick so much ass on so many levels.

The Meetup was at Ralph's Grocery & Deli in downtown Seattle and after most of the people left a college-age student of Asian decent arrived with a normal size microwave oven and a desk lamp in tow.

He then proceeded to buy food, microwave it and eat it while reading his text book under the light of his personal desk lamp. Now bear in mind this is at a downtown deli with a nice eating area with Wifi. I was a little shocked so I ventured over and asked him why he brought the microwave. He said simply "To heat my food". I asked why he needed to do that and he said. They would not heat it for him. I was not sure if he was slightly autistic, did not understand american customs and language or if he was actually brilliant. I can't really argue with his logic. He wanted a place to study while having a hot meal so he carried his microwave to the deli. This is a normal size microwave oven that could nuke a chicken. I can't really argue with his logic and I wish I had my camera with me. He honestly did now why this surprised me.

Oh my way home to the ferry I had a Shih Kebab at Zeena's Egyptian Restaurant with a piece of baklava and all seemed right with the world.

That young man was actually there during the entire meetup; the lamp was on when I arrived around six pm. Doesn't seem like the best place for studying!

I never saw what he was heating up. It was something to go in a plastic tray. I still don't quite understand the whole thing.
