2.5D: Lacks wang or bling bling?
I've always liked the 2.5D style of games. Whether it be Klonoa 2 or Einhander I just can't get enough of them.
But some consider them to be the bastard child of gaming. Where's the sweet 2D sprite action for the 2D gamer? How come the 3D gamer can only move in four directions? Where's the mad Halo bling?! It seems to fit no molds.
Although it is 2D fighters week and 2.5D really has nothing to do with either of them, I'd like to dedicate this post to one of my favorite niche graphic styles. Nothing like having a giant bloody and mutilated turtle butt barf on you in 3D goodness. The upcoming (unless you imported it) shoot-em-up Ikaruga will deliver with intense 2D action while proving to still have an awesome 3D anime vibe to the graphics.
Plus the new Gradius is 2.5D and more Gradius can't be a bad thing.

You know Graduis 4 was 2.5D Also GigaWing on Dreamcasat, Yoshi's Story on N64,
2.5D game work out fine when they are shooters or they have 3d sprites that are constrained into a 2d perspective like Contra on PS2. Doom and Wolfenstein 3d are arguable 2.5D games and then there is the bastard child of isometric perspective like Zaxxon.
Also Suikoden and Breath of Fire 4 on PSOne are 2.5D RPGs.
Have you ever played the original Klonoa on PSOne? It is quite tight.
Hey nice to see you post again! Do you want me to do any changes to your icon? You sort of look like Bart Simpson in the orange shirt. It looks like that image link to Gamers.com didn't work out. Also you need to change your email address from the main menu of MT under "Edit your Profile"
Everyone this is my cousin Gavin in California. He is in high school and is insanely great at Dance Dance Revolution

Hah, always mentioning DDR. I haven't played it in a while though. The only Bemani game I play now a days is the occasional game of Beatmania IIDX at my friends house.
Anyways great site you've got here Jake. Really fun to read.

Klonoa is one of the few games I have never attempted to get into. Maybe I should...in whatever spare time I might be able to find.

Klonoa 1 is probably the best most least know platformer game out there. It is a joy to play and I would rank it up with Mario, Sonic and Bonk. I would trade all my Crash Bandicoot games for Klonoa. If you see another copy of it let me know so I can get it for my cousin Gavin here.

Hey, Jake. Do you have an e-mail address that actually works?
Posted by: Mici at February 25, 2003 9:14 AM
yeah jmetcalf@8bitjoystick.com
Have you been having problems with it?
Posted by: Jake at February 25, 2003 9:18 AM
Yupp. Everytime I e-mail me it tells me the e-mail server is rejecting my message.

Heh, thanks Jake I never really played Klonoa that much cept for the GBA version.
If you're gunna get me a copy of Klonoa, do you want a copy of Advance Wars? It's a pretty fun game and I've seen it for 15 dollars at a local Target which is mega cheap for such a good game. I'll pick you up a copy if you already don't have one and you want it.

I already have that game it reminds me of Military Madness on the TG016. IF I can get Kolnoa it is super rare. It took me six months to find my copy.
